Train Any Dog With These General Dog Training Hints

Training a dog is crucial for having an obedient friend. There are good and bad points to dog training, but you’ll have more success if you acquaint yourself with a variety of techniques. Equip yourself by reading the piece that follows.

Leashes can be a new concept for puppies, so have them begin preparing for it by wearing a collar during playtime. It is important for the puppy to get used to the collar so it can be identified.

Your dog needs to pay attention to what you communicate. The guide above has outlined good tips that you could use in training your dog. Take your time and your dog will learn the appropriate behaviors. If you want a dog that listens you must be consistent with them.

Socialization with other people and pets is an important part of your dog’s training. Your dog needs to know how to act around other dogs and humans, and frequent socialization is the only way to teach these skills. This ensures their safety and the safety of others.

You can train a pooch to roll over fairly quickly if you have some treats to hand out. Start by getting the dog to lay down. Then hold the treat at the side of the dog’s head and move it around it’s face to the other side. He’ll follow your hand and roll over completely. Say the command, “roll over” when he rolls over. Be patient if they don’t get it right away; they’ll get it soon enough!

Make sure that your dog stays in a relaxed area. Play time is good to have with your pet, however, your dog should remain calm when you enter the room. Do not acknowledge the animal when you enter and by doing so, you create a controlled atmosphere in which you decide how and when play time begins.

If you follow these tips you should be on your way to having a potty trained pup in 7 days!

Potty training your dog doesn’t have to be a difficult task. There are many methods for potty training your dog. Choosing a method can be overwhelming but rest assured that most methods are equally effective.

The crating method is a simple method based on the theory that dogs won’t soil in their eating and sleeping area. This method requires that you acquire a crate that is sized appropriately for your dog. You will want to choose a crate that is just big enough for your dog to stand up, turn around, and lie down. It is important to remember that a crate that is too big will not be effective for potty training because it will allow your dog to establish an area for relieving himself that is separate from where he spends the rest of his time. Crates can be purchased in most pet supply stores. They come in many different types including ones made of nylon, plastic, or metal. Crates come in several sizes and can accommodate dogs of just about any size. You can also purchase a divider for your crate which is useful if you are potty training a puppy because you won’t have to buy a smaller crate.

Once you have a crate, you can begin potty training your dog. The keys to using a crate for potty training are to anticipate when your dog will need to go out to relieve himself and to keep the dog crated when you are not able to supervise him.

To begin the potty training process, take your dog outside to the designated potty area and use a phrase such as, “Go potty” or “Hurry up”. If your dog relieves himself, praise by saying, “Good potty” or “Good hurry up” and give him a treat. It is important that you praise and reward your dog immediately after he relieves himself so that he will associate the praise and positive reinforcement with going to the bathroom outside. If your dog does not relieve himself, bring him back inside and confine him in the crate. Keep him crated for 2-3 hours and then take him outside to the designated potty area ask him to go potty. If he relieves himself, reward him with verbal praise and offer him a tangible reward, such as a treat. If your dog does not relieve himself, return him to his crate and repeat the entire process until your dog does relieve himself. It is crucial that you remember to praise and reward your dog each time he relieves himself in the designated potty area.

Once you have had your dog relieve himself in the designated potty area, you can start to give your dog more room to play. You can do this gradually by first moving your dog into a larger fenced in area such as an exercise pen. Continue the same process of taking your dog outside frequently and praising and rewarding him if he relieves himself outside. After your dog does this successfully a few times you can increase the area in which the dog is confined again. Continue to increase the area your dog is allowed to roam as well as the amount of time between trips outside until your dog is given free reign of the house and is able to refrain from soiling in the house for several hours.

The crate training method has both its advantages and disadvantages. One advantage is that it is a method that works very quickly and takes very little effort on the part of the dog owner. A dog’s natural instinct is to not soil in their eating and sleeping area so it is not difficult to keep them from doing so in their crate. Another advantage is that it is a method that works very quickly. A disadvantage to this method is that crates can be rather expensive. If you plan on using a crate throughout the dog’s life, then they are a good investment but if you only plan to use it for potty training, it is a pricey option.

Using a clicker is another other way to potty train your dog. A clicker is a small device that emits a clicking noise when you press a button. They are very inexpensive and can be purchased and most pet supply stores. The theory behind clicker training is that a dog will perform a desired behavior for the reward of hearing the clicking sound. It may sound unusual but clicker training is used by many dog trainers to teach behaviors. Dogs are not automatically excited by the sound of the clicker but that behavior is taught through a process called “loading the clicker”. Before you can begin any type of clicker training, it is important that you teach your dog to enjoy the sound of the clicker. This is known as loading the clicker and is done by pressing the button to make the clicking sound and when your dog responds to the sound, reward him with praise and a treat. Repeat this 15-20 times in a row for several days. By this time your dog will be responding to the clicker and you can use the clicker to begin potty training.

To potty train using the clicker method, take your dog outside to the designated potty area. Just like with the crating method, use a phrase such as, “Go potty” to encourage the dog to relieve himself. If he does so, reward him by clicking and giving him a treat. Again, it is important to click and treat immediately after the dog relieves himself so that he knows that he is being rewarded for relieving himself. If the dog doesn’t relieve himself, bring him back inside and wait an hour or two and then try taking him outside again. Unlike the crating method, you will need to keep a close eye on your dog when he is in the house. Watch for signs that he has to go out such as sniffing around on the ground. If you notice your dog doing this, take him outside immediately and see if he needs to relieve himself. If he does so, reward him by clicking and giving him a treat. After awhile your dog will realize that he is being rewarded for relieving himself outside and you will be on your way to having a potty trained dog.

There are also advantages and disadvantages to using a clicker to potty train your dog. One advantage is that you don’t need to purchase any expensive equipment for this method. A disadvantage is that you have to watch your dog very closely in between trips outside to ensure that they don’t relieve themselves in the house. Another disadvantage is that you need to teach the dog to respond to the clicker before you can begin potty training.

Paper training is a two step process for potty training your dog. Dogs are first trained to relieve themselves inside the house in a designated area such as on a newspaper. This behavior is trained the same way as with crate training and clicker training. You take the dog to a designated area and as them to “Go potty” or “Hurry up” and if they relieve themselves you praise and reward them and if they don’t you wait and hour or two and try again. Once you train the dog to relieve himself on the newspaper, you make the area of newspaper smaller and move it closer to the door. You continue to do this until you are outside and there is no more newspaper. Once this is achieved you have successfully potty trained your dog.

The advantage of paper training is that you don’t have to purchase any equipment for this method. You can use old newspapers or other old papers that you have around the house as the designated potty area. One disadvantage to this method is that it is a two step process so you will need to teach one behavior and then modify it until you have the desired behavior. Another disadvantage is that the first step teaches the dog to relieve himself inside the house and there is the risk that the dog may never learn the second part of the process.

There are a few general rules that apply to any method that you choose. You should watch your dog closely while potty training and do not give them an opportunity to fail. Watch for signs that your dog needs to go out and take them out quickly so that they don’t have a chance to soil in the house. If your dog does have an accident in the house, do not scold them. Clean the mess up quietly and don’t allow the dog to see that you are upset. They will not understand what they are being scolded for so it will not help the potty training process. Make sure you are giving your dog ample opportunity to relieve himself outside. Also, when your dog does relieve himself outside, be very generous with the praise and rewards. Make sure your dog knows that you are very happy with what he has just done.

Crating, clicker training and paper training are all effective methods for potty training your dog. All of them work relatively quickly and easily and, in most cases, will lead to having a potty trained dog in just a few weeks. All methods have there advantages and disadvantages and it is up to the owner to decide which method they think will work best for them and their dog. Whichever method you choose, it is important to be consistent and praise your dog when they relieve themselves outside.

House training your puppy can take several weeks, with some breeds it can take even longer, but is imperative in order to minimize house and den soiling incidents.

The best manner in which to housetrain your puppy is to establish a routine. You should take him outside on a consistent and frequent schedule, having an opportunity to do what he needs to do after waking from a nap, after playing, and of course after eating. It can be beneficial to initially choose a potty location for your puppy, and lead him to this area on a leash everytime you take him outside. If your puppy has an accident inside the house, it can help to place the soiled rags you used to clean it up in the potty location. The odour will lead the dog to understand that this is the right area to relieve himself in.

It is of paramount importance to praise your puppy and make a big fuss of him whenever he uses the potty location correctly, otherwise he will not know that his behavior is appropriate and what you want him to do – you can even give him a treat to begin with, but try not to make a habit of this in case the puppy starts to expect a treat every time he eliminates.

If you catch your puppy relieving himself inside the house, you should interrupt him by making a startling noise, and then lead him out to his potty area to finish. After he finishes in the potty area, once again praise him gratuitously so he understand that this is what he should be doing. Unfortunately, if you’re too late in catching your puppy eliminating in the house, there is little you can do. It’s too late to administer any correction, as animals do not understand punishment with any sort of delay involved, no matter how short. It is, however, very important to clean up properly so the dog does not get the impression that the location he defiled is a good place to use again in future.

There are much kind of new puppies training, one of the many popular ways to train puppies and dogs is clicker training.

What is dog training clicker? Dog training clicker is a type of operant conditioning used successfully by many animal trainers. It is one method of training your dogs using principles of consistency desired behaviors. Dog training clicker rewards an animal for performing desired behaviors, rather than punishing misbehavior.

Dog Training Clicker
The clicker is a small hand held box which emits a clicking sound when a button is depressed. Other variations of the clicking device can be simply snapping your fingers.

The concept of dog training clicker is to positively enforce commands, by clicking the device each time a dog completes a command properly, and handing the dog a treat as a reward. Conditioning the dog to hear the clicker causes it to snap to attention eventually, as it associates the clicker with receiving a treat. Here are three basic steps of dog training clicker:

1. Show a food treat to your dog and then giving her to smell the treat. It makes her understand that you are holding something she wants.

2. Perform any actions you want and click the clicker and praise her, as soon as your dog pays attention to what you are holding.

3. Do the steps six or seven times, and repeat over the course of several days, slowly raising the hoop each day.

No more shouting or yanking your dog around in the name of training. Clicker training is the fun, reward based method of dog training that you will both enjoy.

Using the basic steps of dog training clickers, you can teach other tricks and commands, such as ‘come’, ‘stay’, ‘heel’ and ‘paw’.

A puppy training pad is getting to be the way many people are potty training their new puppy. These pads are good not only for potty training but for keeping a dog inside whom seldom goes outside. Anyone living in city conditions where taking their dog outside will appreciate the convenience of a puppy training pad.

We see older dogs that because of age or health or injuries can no longer control their kidneys and these pads provide a real convenience for both the animal and its owner. Young dogs are anxious to make their owners happy by relieving themselves in the right place. If a mature dog suffers from incontinence it will be a difficult situation for him and his master.

Marring of household contents can be costly and cleaning can be unpleasant for the owner and also stressful to the dog. Puppy training pads can help man and animal get along well and help the dog with his issues.

Litter boxes such those used for cats can also be helpful for dogs. Litter boxes have assisted in housebreaking of many small dogs. Litter boxes are not necessarily the most desirable answer, however. Bags of litter are expensive and the litter boxes can become a bit unkempt. Cats and litter boxes seem to work out well but this is probably not the best solution for dogs.

A puppy training pad is less costly and provides a less messy alternative. The pads are probably more like going outside on the yard than the litter box is. With a litter box some of the material invariably winds up on the floor and this does not happen with pads. The pads are easy to remove and discard without creating a mess.

These puppy training pads will help with the problem of a dog creating an odor in a certain place and then returning there. Urine odors that penetrate hardwood or carpet will stay there for a long time. If this happens the dog is sure to return to the same spot and propagate the problem. It is a dog’s habit to go back to the same area.

When your puppy goes to the pad it can then be thrown away along with the accompanying smell. Your responsibilities are simplified. If your goal is to teach him to go outside this is fairly easy. Slowly but surely relocate the pad closer and closer to an outside door and give him treats as he behaves properly. Before long he will be going to the door automatically.

When we talk about dog training at home we think of the rewarding feeling of being able to develop an animal’s skills, but there is a lot of work and effort involved in the process too. Dog training at home begins with potty training and continues with complex tasks and commands. However, before you start dog training at home you’ll have to find some professional information on dog health and care. The very basic “sit” and “hello” are among the first tricks of dog training at home, followed by the leash walk as an essential part of the process of dog socializing.

Many pet owners choose to turn to professional videos that teach them dog training at home. There are usually two types of approaches to dog training at home and in general: the collar treatment and the reward-based program. Studies conducted in recent years have shown that dog training at home by using very positive methods is likely to create social and highly reliable animals, that not only will listen to your commands but will always been on guard when it comes to the safety of your family. Dog training at home may not have the professional background but it surely has an emotional touch.

Once you start dog training at home don’t limit to teaching the dog how to raise the paw or sit when ordered. You can take dog training at home a little further and show the animal how to play “fetch”. It begins by using one of the pet’s favorite toys, but it has to result in the animal’s ability to bring any object. No matter the purpose of dog training at home, keep in mind that reward is the magic key to get to your dog’s mind. Every time it performs an action, the dog will need encouragement to continue; therefore an affectionate moment is welcome and appreciated as much as some goodie treat.

Dog training at home takes a lot of time and energy, and many people find it a true challenge. However, time should not be a problem as long as you can turn to your animal and lavish a little attention on it. You can even practice fetch during a commercial just like any other commands learned during dog training at home. If you don’t want to have your dog on the sofa with you, you can always order it to move, and the animal would respond. This is the very practical side of dog training at home. By all means avoid bullying the dog or raising your voice, as such manifestations develop aggression or fear.

Methods that you use for training your puppy are a vital skill for you and your puppy. It is significant to teach your puppy accurate socialization and obedience this will be helpful in having an untrained dog. Each puppy is individuals and you need to recognize this when training your puppy nonetheless finding the right methods that best fits the need of your dog will help you be successful in training.

First, thing you need to know is that training your puppy requires time and commitment. Some puppies are by nature with aggressive or anti-social behavior. If you happen to have a puppy like this your main tool will be patience’s and you have to continue to reinforce the training even when your puppy keeps making mistakes. It is important to take in consideration the dog’s age. Puppies and younger dogs are easier trained then an older dog. In spite of your older dogs behavioral problems they can be corrected with proper strategies.

You should start training your puppy at 6 – 8 week. The age of your puppy will decide which training method is most suitable.

First, let your puppy get use to his new environment. House training starts with methods such as crate training, potty training and understanding basic commands. Your puppy should understand commands such as; sit, come, and stay. These commands are vital. They serve as your puppy’s basis training and will guarantee the safety of your dog in public settings.

          ]]>

Another important element in puppy training is socialization. If your dog is correctly socialized they will be able to interact with other humans and animals without being scared or feel they need to use forceful behavior. Otherwise, it might be necessary to confine your dog to the house all the time for his safety and others. During the first 3 months of a puppies life is important for teaching socialization skills afterwards it is vital to reinforce and improve these skills.

Leash training and obedience training is very important in training your puppy to correct behavior. Make sure that your puppy is fitted properly with a collar and then get him familiar with a leash. The collar should fit snug but not tightly. Training your puppy to a leash will permit the puppy to walk in outside settings. Obedience training will teach your puppy to react to commands and prevent the puppy from using negative behavior.

Some basic tips can help the success of most puppy training methods. You must use positive reinforcement when training your puppy. When your puppy follows commands reward him with praise or treats. Positive reinforcement can help the puppy to better understand the training. Starting your training in a quiet environment free from distractions can make the training easier on you as well as your puppy.

House breaking your puppy will require patience and understanding to become successful. Common mistake made by pet owners is scolding their puppies when it is too late. Too late means when you did not catch him in the act. If you yell or scold your puppy after the fact will only confuse him. If your puppy makes a mess and you did not catch him in the act just simply clean up the mess without making a fuss. If you do catch him in the act distract him with a loud “NO” and quickly take him outside while he is in the middle of eliminating. Then, after he has done his business in the correct area praise him.

Don’t rub your puppy’s nose in his mess. Not only is this cruel it may also cause him to become afraid of eliminating in front of you. This will cause problems he will still eliminate in the house but, will try to hide to do it. This could also cause him to eat his mess in fear of how you will react.

Housebreaking your puppy does not have to have headaches if you go about it in the right way. Patience, timing and consistency are the keys to successfully house breaking your puppy. Lots of praises and rewards and good attitude will go along ways.
