Among dog breeds, the Golden Retriever is one of the easiest to train and to take care of. They are usually known for their obedience and friendly temperament which makes them are popular as family pets, therapy and service dogs. They manifest different talents which include competitive obedience, narcotic detection, agility, and performing and show tricks.

Golden Retriever puppies are the perfect pets for anyone who enjoys an affectionate and mild tempered dog for a companion. They settle well into family life if given the proper training and attention. Though potential pet owners should be aware that without the proper obedience and housebreaking training, your golden retriever puppy can prove to be more of a problem than being fun. You have to start them young; you should come up with a Golden Retriever Puppy training plan as soon as you have those adorable puppies in your home.Here are a few tips in training your adorable furry pets.

Socialization

* Pet owners have to make sure that their golden retrievers meet and mingle with as many people as possible during their first four months. It has been known that a Golden retriever suffers from separation anxiety when frequently left alone, anxiety can manifest in excessive barking and destructiveness.
* Going on trips, visiting friends who own pets, and walking along busy streets should be integral of your dog’s education. These positive experiences will allow your puppy to be at ease with human presence and reduce the probability of any future behavior problems.House-training
* Housebreak your golden retriever as early as possible by observing and becoming acquainted with your puppy’s body language such sniffing the floor.
* If your puppy stays mainly inside the house, take your puppy outside every 45 minutes or so after meals as they tend to have toilet needs around this time.
* Give praises and rewards so that your dog so that it will be able to associate new activities as positive experiences.
Obedience- training
* If your dog stays inside your house most of the time, it is important start your golden retriever training inside the home where your dog stays. They will tend to learn faster when he/she is in a familiar location.
* Train your golden retriever in short but frequent sessions. Dogs usually have a short attention span and will get easily distracted or bored.
* Lastly, do not forget to end each training session with a positive note. This will make your dog to look forward to the next training session.

//-->

It is important to begin a basic golden retriever training the moment your dog is bought home especially if he is still a puppy, as they say it is hard to teach old dogs new tricks. Good early habits almost usually last and result in a well mannered and perfectly trained golden retriever in the future.

Remember to have fun with your Golden Retriever training and it is guaranteed that you will have very few stressful moments in sharing a home with a fully housebroken, happy and obedient dog.

Friendly, energetic, playful, loving, eager to please, and highly intelligent. These are just a few of the adjectives that apply to Golden Retrievers. What these adjectives mean is that these dogs not only bond with their owners but, also makes them easy to train. However, Golden Retriever puppy training should begin early, before your dog has a chance to train you. Don’t think it can’t happen, it can and it does. These dogs like routine and knowing where they stand within a family and if you don’t set the boundaries for them, then they more than likely will establish their own.

There are three things these dogs need to be completely happy and well behaved. Routine, basic obedience training and early socialization.

Establishing a routine should begin the moment you bring your new pet home. He needs to know where his food dish is, where and when to sleep, and where to relieve himself. Because of this dog’s intelligence he will quickly learn the routine you expect him to follow as long as you are patient and consistent in your Golden Retriever puppy training.

Included in his routine should actually be times for obedience training and socialization. By incorporating everything into his routine your puppy will be better able to know what to expect and to follow any program you lay out for him. Obedience training should take place two or three times of the day and be of short duration usually 10 to 15 minutes at tops. The best time to practice obedience is right after your puppy has had play time and is calmer and is able to pay attention. An excited puppy who wants to play will find it difficult to concentrate and obey commands.

Golden’s learn best through repetition and rewards. Affection and treats are both great rewards for successful Golden Retriever puppy training. Always try to end your training sessions on a positive note so that your puppy will look forward to the next training session.

Early socialization is also a must for this breed of dogs. While they are naturally friendly, socialization will help to bring out this trait and will avoid any anxiety issues that might develop later. Always remember that the more new situations your puppy is introduced to in the Golden Retriever puppy training, the better able he will be to deal with the new situations with calmness and acceptance.

google_ad_slot = "7594500533";
google_ad_width = 336;
google_ad_height = 280;
//-->

It is essential that you start as you mean to go. If you are not going to let a full grown Golden Retriever on your sofa or bed than do not allow your puppy access to those areas. Always keep in mind that it is much easier training a puppy than it is to retrain a dog.

Potty breaking this breed of dog is relatively easy if you keep in mind that he needs to go out 15 or 20 minutes after eating, immediately after taking a nap and both before and after active play. Keep alert for signs that your puppy needs to relieve himself such as sniffing or walking in circles.

If you are unsure how to go about Golden Retriever puppy training then get a good book on training this specific breed. While a good training book for dogs in general will work, one dedicated to this specific breed can make the entire process easier.

The Golden Retriever has been a favorite choice of families for many years. Their sociable attitude and calm temperament make them an ideal family dog. They do require training. Golden Retriever puppy training begins when you bring your puppy home.

The first step in Golden Retriever puppy training will be teaching your puppy potty manners. You can simplify that with a crate. If you have a crate for your puppy, you can train them to hold things until you let them out. Dogs do not usually have ‘accidents’ where they sleep. By taking the dog out of the crate and to a designated area outdoors, you will have an easier time training your puppy. Once he does his business outdoors, reward him with a lot of praise and a treat if you desire to reward with treats. Be sure you take him out of the crate frequently.

It is possible to train your dog not to chew on things that should be left alone. Dogs learn with their mouths, much the same as human children do. This does not give your puppy the right to nip and chew on things such as their owner or their owners clothing or household items. This applies to play time or any time at all.

Golden Retriever puppy training will teach your puppy that it is okay to chew on a tennis ball but not on your favorite piece of furniture or those new shoes you didn’t put in the closet. When your puppy is left alone, the desire to chew and chew becomes even more apparent. Separation anxiety can run rampant when your puppy is left alone. It is important to provide chew toys and lots of them. By keeping him busy with toys, you may be able to save your shoes.

If you see your puppy going for your shoes, take the shoe away and give the puppy a toy or a ball in place of the shoe. If you give words of praise when you swap the items it will soon see that he will be rewarded for chewing on his toys.

Golden Retriever puppy training is easier than many other breeds. You still need to have patience, exhibit consistency and patience to have it be a successful venture.

Socialization is very important. Part of your Golden Retriever puppy training should include a basic behavior class and socialization with a variety of people and dogs. Dog parks can also be beneficial. One thing to remember is to keep control over your puppy at the park. Until the basic commands such as stay, sit and come are followed every time the words are used, keep your puppy on a leash.

Golden Retriever puppy training is an enjoyable and rewarding task. If you cover each step of the plan, you can be sure that you and your puppy will share a long and productive life together. If you choose to take your puppy into the show ring, consultation with other owners and the AKC can help you get on the right path to being winners. It doesn’t have to be conformation; it can be relay or agility. Golden Retrievers are good at all of them.
