If you want to keep your old dog healthy and happy, then there are some necessary steps that you can take in order to do so. Perhaps one of the most important preventative measures is to have you dog examined by a veterinarian every year, or may even more frequently in that.

It’s important that you keep your dog’s weight in check just like any other human being would. Being overweight is just as big a problem for dogs as it is humans and it can cause issues like joint pain, diabetes, arthritis, and even liver or kidney problems. While it is nice to be able to give your dog a treat once in a while, you’ll want to limit the number of treats that you actually do give him. Be sure that you are feeding your old dog the proper amounts of food at least once a day, or perhaps even split that amount into to smaller portions and feed him twice a day. It is also a good idea to educate children on why feeding your old dog food outside of his regular feeding times is not good for him. This will help prevent the problem of overeating.

Water is important for keeping your old dog hydrated so it is important that there is always fresh water available for your old dog to drink. If you’re dog has trouble moving about the house, don’t be afraid to have multiple drinking sources located throughout the house that he can easily get to. You may even consider bringing the water to him if he has a lot of trouble walking around.

Exercise is very important for keeping your dog healthy and active so you’ll want to try and take your dog for walks on a regular basis. This will promote good circulation of the blood and also will help them digest their food after they have eaten. Exercise is a great way to promote overall good health and keeps your dog happy.

Depending on your dog’s eating preferences, it may be necessary to switch to a canned dog food which is more moist than the dry bagged dog food that you would typically buy. As a dog ages his teeth become weaker and it may be more of a pain for him to try and eat the dry dog food that he has been used to. Canned, moist dog food will eliminate this problem all while still giving him the necessary nutrients and vitamins that he needs from his food.

These are just a few tips that you can make use of to keep your dog healthy and happy. Remember, regular vet checks, proper eating habits, and daily exercise are some of the most important activities that will help keep your old dog healthy and active.

Those who have pet dogs at their homes would definitely agree to the well known verse “dogs are man’s best friends. They would wag their tail and lick your face when you come back to home. He would always keep you busy on your toes even when you are at home doing nothing. He would sit quietly besides you at times and give you a peace of mind. People who have dog know that leaving their home locked at times does not mean returning back to the house to see a chewed pair of shoe, but seeing a dog who tries to tell you by his expressions or actions or wagging his tail and jumping on you that he missed you.

When you keep a dog at your place you need to be very careful about their medicines about their nutrition and about their allergies. To know your dog’s allergies would help you take care of him when he is unwell. Even dogs are allergic to substances like human beings, even they fall sick. You would find a dog being allergic when he is between one and four years of age.

An allergy is nothing but a reaction to any substances which is capable of inducing a hypersensitive reaction in animals. Allergies are common in many breeds and even in cross breeds. Allergies can even be passed genetically or from parents. Food sensitivities is a general and more fitting term for what pet owners think of as food allergies. This could lead to dog vomiting or even diarrhoea. The other common type of allergy in dog is itching of the body it could at a localized area which means at a certain part of the body or generalized area which means all over the body. It could be due to skin infection or due to exposure to certain type of grass etc. A dog might Sneeze or cough due to expose to a substance for which he is allergic. Atopy or inhalant is another type of dog allergy. If dogs inhale cedar, ash or oak etc which is tree pollens, or grass pollens, weed pollens etc they might be allergic to such allergens.

Contact Dermatitis is another reaction if any different substance touches the skin. Too cure a skin allergy you can shampoo your dog which would help remove his Scales, scabs, some parasites etc. As humans have teeth aches or tooth problems the same way dogs do have canine allergies. You need to understand its symptoms and provide your dog with relief. Hives and rashes on the dog’s body can be symptoms of allergy. If you observe your dog is vomiting or is having some other symptoms for a few days now take your dog to a veterinian who might give him some drugs which would give your dog relief.

Having a new puppy to take care of is certainly one of the more challenging things that pet owners have to do. There are a number of tasks that have to be completed day in and day out in order to keep your puppy happy and healthy.

1. Provide Attention

Your puppy will want to feed on the attention that you give him. After all, a dog is a man’s best friend, so he’ll start portraying that from the moment you bring him home. Make it a point to provide him with the attention that he needs. Doing so will help to make him more sociable with humans and will make him a more friendlier dog overall.

2. Nutrition

When puppies are young they are in the critical growing stages of their lives which means that its important that they are properly fed and cared for from a nutrition standpoint. Be certain that the food you are providing you puppy is healthy and that he is getting the essential vitamins and minerals that are needed in order to promote strong and healthy growth.

3. Obedience Training

Another puppy care tip that is as equally important than the others is to train your puppy to perform or avoid certain things that will make him more obedient. If you plan on keeping your puppy in the house, you’ll want to train him to go outside when he has to go to the bathroom. Housebreaking is perhaps one of the first things that new puppy owners work on when they bring their new friend home. Other training activities might include teaching your puppy to site, come, and stay, which are a few of the more simple commands that you can teach.

There are many other duties that you will face as a new puppy owner, and each new task you take on will present it’s own challenges and rewards. If you pay close attention to your new puppy and do whatever it takes to keep him happy and healthy, you will have a long lasting and rewarding friendship for many years to come.

Just like human beings, dogs can suffer from a wide range of diseases. Most of the times dogs encounter problems with their joints, bones, eyes or nervous system. Dogs can also develop health issues that are more difficult.

Hereditary issues like cancer can sometimes happen. The health of your dog should be of concern. But there are some simple steps you can take in order to ensure the health of your dog. There are some breeds that are more predisposed to certain illnesses and you should get to know them. Research the breed that you have and make sure you know everything about it.

The Exercises

Usually all the dogs need to exercise each day. The small breeds have to exercise indoors and also outdoors. It also depends on the breed. Some breeds do not like to do sports and it is easy to ready about that. There are many dogs that like to sit in the room and sleep for many days.

But turning the back yard into a playing ground for your dog will be something he will appreciate. During summer many dogs prefer to sit in the shade and not exercise at all. They like to rest and keep calm. When they are puppies, dogs love to go out and play and you, as its owner, must keep up with that. Dogs especially like to play fetch or Frisbee and they like to feel appreciated and loved. Encouraging the dog to take walks with you is also a great thing.

Diet

The food that the dog eats is very important its quality is highly important and you should avoid wet foods and the ones that are of low quality. Make sure you feed it nutritional food, to keep it out of trouble.

You should avoid giving your dog: chocolate, sweets, sugars, raisins, raw fish, raw pork, poultry bones, coffee, garlic, mushrooms and onions. Also, make sure the dog has plenty of water every day.

Details

You must keep a close eye on your dog and make sure he does not show sings of anxiety or discomfort. Also, if you notice changes in its behavior, you must address the situation.

Vet Visits

The visits to the vet must be regarded as routine. The dog must be kept under surveillance especially if he shows signs of a disease.

Love and Caring

This is an important aspect as dogs love to be loved and they appreciate all the attention they can receive.

Keep your dogs healthy; because they are not only pets, they are your friends. Visit the veterinary doctor regularly. And if you feel any change in the behavior or any doubt that your dog is not well, don’t hesitate to call your veterinarian.

Dog owners are often very concerned for their dog health care, but what about the times when a dog helps with its owner’s health care? Everyone is aware of the potential for training dogs to help the blind or the hard of hearing, but in an interesting new twist, dog health care is starting to take secondary place to owner care for several dogs working with a new charity.

Hounds for heroes is a charity aimed at setting up injured service men and women with an assistance dog to help them with their rehabilitation, both emotionally and physically. The dogs are trained to help with a variety of tasks, so that life is more manageable for the injured service personnel, allowing faster recuperation and a return to independence.

The puppies on parade appeal, launched in the past few weeks aims to train several puppies in all manner of tasks to help personnel and to demonstrate the charity’s gratitude for the sacrifices the service men and women have made for our country.

Dog health care and training experts have been quick to commend the idea, citing the intelligence of certain breeds of dog as well as the emotional bond that can be developed with the animal as reasons for supporting the cause.

One service man who has lived with an assistance dog for several years is supporting the cause by sharing some of the information about how his dog helped him. His dog was able to respond to over two hundred instructions, including withdrawing money from the cash machine or loading clothes into a washing machine.

This just demonstrates what dog health care and behavioural experts have long known: dogs have a place helping humans.
