Good dog owners are always bothered with this tricky question – what is the best dog food? Choosing the right one is exhausting task, because shelves of supermarkets and pet stores are full of pet food. But the truth is that canned, dry or semi-moist products aren’t the best dog food. Don’t fall for the commercials; such food will cause health problems to your friend, sooner or later. But what is considered the best dog food then?

It is quite simple – fresh food that you buy for yourself (fresh meat, fish, vegetables, eggs, cotton cheese and etc) IS the best choice for your dog as well. Think about it – dogs never eaten any canned or processed food till 1930s, and they were domesticated almost for 150 centuries already. And the fact is – dogs lived for 16-18 years, because they had a great diet.

But why today’s processed kibble and canned products can’t be considered best dog food? Ingredients are absolutely horrible. Did you know that meat used for “best dog food” can’t pass USDA inspection? Big companies use meat from livestock that is diseased, disabled or already dead when it arrives at the slaughterhouse. Did you know that? And we are not mentioning growth hormones and antibiotics which were injected in the poor livestock to make it grow faster…

Other bad ingredient is the grain. Grains and cereals should not be eaten by dogs, simply because their digestive tracts are not designed for this. Dogs have short and straight digestive tracts that are designed to digest meat. So that’s why even naturally grown corn, soy and wheat aren’t the best dog food, by any means. On top of that, grains used for dog food are unfit for human consumption.

Also pet food companies spray greasy fat on all their products. Without such spray their production would not be considered food by your dog. It’s the smell that encourages him.

And another problem with commercial dog food is preservatives. All three preservatives that are used for “best dog food” are considered toxic, and marked as poison by Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). And all 3 are banned in Europe, but not in the US. How about that? Do you still want to feed your beloved dog with poison, on daily basis?!

So we came to the conclusion – you shouldn’t feed your dog with processed food. But what foods are healthy? Here is a short list of best dog food – chicken, beef, turkey, venison, fish, eggs, cottage cheese, vegetables (all kind of, try different to see what your dog likes most), liver, heart, kidney, oatmeal (sometimes) and a lot of other products. Food must be natural, and other than there is not much limitations. You can use a bit of whole grains too, for mineralsvitamins, but you need to pulverize and cook them before serving, for optimal digestion. Also don’t forget about special vitamin/mineral supplements, they are quite important.

Now you know the basics, and understand why it is important to feed your dog only with natural products. But if you want to take this further and make best dog food yourself, at home, go and research this topic in depth.

What if you just can’t keep your dog healthy enough?

I know how hard it can be to drive to veterinarians frequently.
But if you want to really make your dog well and healthy, you’ll need to learn a single method that works amazingly well.

I first heard about pet insurance almost six years ago when I saw a magazine ad which directed me to a website for a quote.

I can’t remember which company it was for, but I remember the pet insurance rates listed were about $20 per month, per pet. Being a broke graduate student at the time, I didn’t make the purchase.

It surprises me today how many pet owners have faced daunting vet bills, yet how few have heard of pet health insurance. And now that I work for Pets Best Insurance, people always ask “How much would it be for my 8 year-old Great Dane?” or “Would your plans cover my cat’s urinary tract problems?”

There are a few things to consider when shopping for a pet health insurance company. While excellent customer service, fast payment and easy online account maintenance is a plus (Pets Best Insurance offers all of these), for many of us, it comes down to monthly pet insurance rates. When I adopted my dog Jayda last spring, I was pleased to discover I would’ve chosen Pets Best Insurance even if I didn’t work here. One company offers 45 days of free coverage and a discount the first month after that, but after I did a little research, switching to Pets Best Insurance was a no-brainer.

For me, it was important to have a variety of deductibles to choose from, in order to get the perfect monthly pet insurance rates. I also didn’t want to be nickled-and-dimed to death with things like extra cancer coverage. (Pets Best Insurance plans cover cancer, so long as the cancer isn’t pre-existing.)

I was surprised to see some companies require a full 30-day waiting period, so you’re paying for an entire month with no coverage—which didn’t seem very fair to me, and didn’t seem to make sense for my dog’s health care.

Other factors in my search included age limits and continuous care. Some companies won’t insure older pets. Still others start their policies fresh every year, meaning that anything previously covered can be regarded as a pre-existing condition. That defeats the entire purpose of dog health care insurance, if you ask me. And what if my dog were to get sick just before our policy renewed? We wouldn’t have much coverage at all. Thankfully with Pets Best Insurance, we don’t have to worry about any of that.

When you’re comparing pet insurance rates, make sure you consider all the above. It’s also important to determine what you can afford each month, and how much you can comfortably part with as a deductible. All Pets Best Insurance plans cover 80% of covered expenses after a deductible is subtracted. Additionally my company’s pet insurance rates are all inclusive and include some of the highest payout limits in the industry.

Pets Best is a pet insurance company with excellent customer service, and has a quick claim turnaround time. Pets Best offers pet insurance which makes the claim process simple and has no annual limitations.

Fleas are a serious concern that every pet owner eventually has to contend with. Everybody who owns a dog has most likely gone through the difficult job of having to rid their dog of fleas, a task that has time and again been shown to be more difficult than it appears.

Fleas aren’t just a problem because they bother and cause hours of aggravating itching for your pet, but they may also lead to additional critical complications including tapeworm infestations, flea allergies and anemia in acute cases.

Owing to their amazing hardiness, fleas are inconceivably challenging to control. A female may lay over 2,000 eggs during the span of her lifetime, this implies that an infection could come about briskly and the eggs that she laid could last for a number of months in her habitat while just awaiting a timely victim. That’s why it’s important to eradicate both the fleas on the dog as well as the fleas making their home in the pet’s living space. The top areas to find fleas are carpets, bedding, rugs and sand.

The Best Methods to Get Rid of Fleas

To completely kill fleas on your dog and in his or her environment, it’s fundamental to know the flea’s lifespan. There are four stages which makeup the life cycle of the flea. As with most insects, the fleas originates from the egg stage, grows into larva, and then matures to the pupa phase until finally making it to the adult stage.

The Flea’s Egg Phase

The fleas eggs are whitish in color and are so small that they are tough to see without the use of a magnifying glass. Even though the eggs are first laid on the dog’s skin, many will eventually drop onto the ground to carry on their trek to adulthood. Around half of the entire flea count is made up of eggs. Dependant upon the surrounding conditions, the eggs hatch in anywhere from two to four weeks. The higher the heat and moistness in the living area, the sooner the eggs will hatch.

The Flea’s Larvae Stage

Once the flea egg hatches, it enters the larva stage where it enlarges to almost 1/4 inch in length. The flea larva subsist on natural waste materials and in the adult flea’s feces. They do not like intense light and are inclined to hide deep inside the current environment, if possible in a hot and damp place. Climate controlled homes are the preferred surroundings for the flea’s life cycle to thrive. Outdoors, larva development will only come about in soggy, shady locations.

The Flea Pupae Stage

After moving into the pupae stage, the flea pupa develop a velvety and sticky protective layer. The cocoon rapidly structures a useful camouflage as it gets encrusted by waste and soil. If motivated by heat, carbon dioxide or by physical influence, like that in a balmy and moist environment, an adult flea might appear from the cocoon in as quickly as 5 to 10 days. As soon as the adult flea appears out of the cocoon, it could live for only a couple of days unless it’s able to find a host. Pre-emerged adult fleas can last within the cocoon for up to 9 months. This is important because adult fleas still surviving within the cocoon are impervious to pesitcides spread over the environment and can appear a considerable time after you utilize insecticides in your home.

The Flea Adulthood Stage

Once the adult flea appears from its chrysalis, it will need to rapidly locate a host because it needs blood if it is to subsist. Two days subsequent to finding an acceptable host, the female flea will start to lay just about forty eggs per day. Adult fleas normally last up to 3 weeks. The full lifecycle of a flea may possibly be completed in as quickly as two to four weeks, or up to ten months dependent upon its surrounding conditions.

Treating Your Dog For Fleas

There are a lot of powders, shampoos, sprays and on the spot measures available to free your dog of fleas. Be sure to consult with a vet to pick the truly effective and trustworthy flea products for your home and pet.

Methods For Clearing the Indoor Environment of Fleas

The majority of products are simply effective against the adult flea, but environmental preparations are becoming more sophisticated. A veterinarian can give you flea insecticides that contain insect growth regulators which will help exterminate the larvae and flea eggs. Prior to the use of any environmental pesticide, it’s a good idea vacuum the rugs and carpeting to entice the pre-adult fleas to surface from their protective cocoon. Be sure to toss away the vacuum bag following its use. You should also clean all bedding your pet has lied on.

Methods For Clearing the Outside Surroundings of Fleas

Focus on dim, shady regions. Spray an insecticide made of an insect growth regulator and repeat it every 2-3 weeks for 3 to 5 treatments.

The newer oral and topical flea deterrents ought to greatly benefit you in resolving any flea problems. With determination and patience, you and your pet will be flea free in short order!

Prior to last weekend, I had no idea there was such thing as a doggy exercise wheel. A hamster running in a wheel, I get. A dog running in a wheel seems silly.

Why not just ensure Fido’s dog health by taking him for a walk?

Before last weekend I also had no idea there was such thing as a T-shirt that purports to aid pet health by reducing a dog’s level of anxiety. I contemplated buying one for my neurotic Chihuahua, but quickly determined strapping her into a tight, form-fitting doggy tee would likely make her neurosis worse.

The creative pet health items noted above were just a few of the many booths I sauntered by at the AVMA convention last week in Atlanta, Georgia. Some of the Pets Best Insurance team made the trip to participate as exhibitors.

We received a fantastic response from the veterinary community, including vets, vet technicians and others.

It’s always nice to hear that our pet insurance is preferred by veterinarians and their staff because of the way we pay out claims. It’s even nicer to hear that they refer us because we “always do what we say we will,” to quote one veterinarian.

Visitors to our booth happily filled out quick pet insurance surveys and also used this time to get a better understanding of how our three accident and illness pet insurance policies work, and what our BestWellness plan covers.

Each day of the convention introduced our product to new and returning pet health insurance advocates.

Overall, it was great to spend a few days mingling and chatting with the very people who see the benefit of our product on a daily basis—although I have to admit I was glad to get home to that excited, tail-wagging, neurotic Chihuahua.

Canine oral health is an area of pet health and wellbeing enduring a considerable amount of focus by dog lovers. The modern-day dog owner values the rewards from cleaning dog teeth regularly. Formulations of all natural substances created for cleaning dog teeth, have proved to deliver the best product for cleaning dogs teeth. These products stop the accumulation of plaque and damaging bacteria in a dog’s mouth. The components for these types of oral care remedies where discovered via the initiatives of biochemist and naturopathic practitioners at organizations dedicated to the science of dog health and nutrition.

Modern-day canine oral sprays are incredibly helpful at cleaning dog teeth by getting rid of the detrimental bacteria that bring about plaque. These products ingredients are made from extracting the active forms of natural substances proved to eliminate harmful bacteria. These substances are compatible with the natural bacterial environment on a dog’s teeth and gums enabling the formulation’s natural compounds to integrate into the flora of a dog’s mouth. As the helpful bacteria commence to crowd out the harmful organism in dog’s mouth the creation of fresh plaque on the teeth and gums begins to slow.

The finest products for cleaning dogs teeth incorporate natural ingredients that break-up the existing plaque before it has an chance to develop into tarter. Hard dental tartar (calculus) is composed of calcium salts from saliva deposited on plaque. Tartar starts to form in just a few days on a tooth surface that is not kept clean, and supplies a rough surface area that encourages additional plaque build up. Once it has begun to grow in thickness, tartar is tough to clear away devoid of dental instruments.

The most effectual substances for breaking up plaque are taken from different plant types. These substances are successful at getting rid of harmful bacteria on a dog’s teeth and gums; neem oil, grape seed extract, thyme oil, are tested effective anti-bacterial materials. Thyme oil is essentially the active ingredient in the well-liked mouth wash Listerine. Grape seed extract or GSE inhibits Porphyromonas gingivalis andFusobacterium nucleatum, bacteria responsible for both periodontitis and bad breath in dogs. GSE contains up to 97 percent polyphenols these natural chemicals generates antibacterial activity against the two strains. Moreover, the grape seed extract can permeate the biofilm that surrounds the bacteria. Biofilms serve to protect bacteria against antimicrobial agents and dental plaque’s biofilm is particularly complex. These compounds in addition to being wholly organic match or surpass other man made substance’s capability to deal with and treat a range of periodontal diseases that impacts a dog’s teeth and gums.

While conventional medicine is commonly accepted as the most helpful therapy course by the veterinarian profession, VitaHound has proved natural medicine yields a holistic balance in a dog’s body. Highly digestible and tissue ready ingredients help support systemic health, relieve ailments, and help prevent future disease. Natural compounds that cure the symptoms in dogs commonly help support overall and long term health, in contrast to pharmaceuticals that typically are constrained to suppressing symptoms and whose results are short term.

The best advice for keeping your dog healthy, educate yourself on the individual needs and health issue for your dog and listen to your vet. Getting your dog used to car rides is a good way to reduce stress on vet days. This will help your vet accurately monitor your dog’s health.

Dog health care options are going to depend on your dogs breed. It is important to know the breed or mix of your dog. There are specific characteristic and health issues for different breeds. Use a vet that provides quality dog health care. The more your vet knows your dog, and its breed the better care your dog will receive. You will also want to ensure that your dog is eating the right food for its size and breed. Your dog needs specific combinations of vitamins, minerals and proteins.

You and your vet should keep an eye out for any changes in your dog’s behavior. Being able to identify symptoms and warning signs of illness goes a long way in dog health care. Behavior changes can be symptoms or a warning sign that there is a problem. Knowing what is characteristic for your dog’s breed can help.

Keep your dog happy is just as important as keep it healthy. It can even affect their health. A healthy well cared for dog is usually a happy dog. Dogs love to go for walks. It is important to have the right style of leash. A dog in car is usually a happy dog. A dog should not be loose in a moving car. This is just asking for an accident. However a dog should never be put into the trunk of the car. It is not safe. Use a traveling cage instead. It is not a good idea to leave a dog in car alone for any length of time.

Summer time it gets too hot, even with a window left open a bit. Winter is simply to cold, even if windows are all closed. If you do travel with your dog you may want to get a dog in car sign for the window. Car rides with your dog can be a lot of fun. Just keep in mind that you want your dog to enjoy car rids so you can get them to the vet nice and easy.

Many dog owners do not use dog training hand signals in their daily training but as most professional trainers would agree, the very first thing that precedes every successful puppy training is building relationship with our dog. But the question is how we do just that?

It is not secret that our hairy friend does not speak English so how we going to teach him what is wrong and what is right? While it is true that a dog does not understand the words that come out of our mouth he is able to read our body language and he knows exactly if we are upset or not. So to incorporate dog training signals in our daily training seems to be a very logical solutions which is overlooked by many.

While there are many methods out there to teach our best friend certain behavior and then assign a cue to this behavior which will trigger desired behavior. However, what to do if our hairy friend is far away from us and can not hear what we are saying or what if we have a deaf dog?

Here the benefits of incorporating training hand-signals into daily training are much more obvious. If our puppy can see us, it is enough to show him hand signals and he knows what to do. This is great tool that could help keep our best friend safe which of course if our top priority.

Finally there are no standard puppy training hand signals and you will not make any mistake if you decide to use any desired hand signal as long as you stay consistent to avoid confusing your puppy.
