Puppies start to learn the moment they open their eyes and are most open to new experiences during the first four months. Start training your puppy the moment it is bought home. Good early habits endure and will result in a well behaved dog in the future. The basis for successful training is a good relationship with your dog. You’ll be off to an excellent start when your dog sees you as the provider of all things positive such as food, games, fun, affection, comfort, and exercise. Your dog loves to be with you. You are the person that makes everything good happen.

Exposing your puppy to new environments and experiences early can greatly enhance your dog’s interest in learning new things. Puppy walks or games are great ways to stimulate your pet both mentally and physically. If actively stimulated, your puppy will become healthier and adept at learning new trainings faster. This will also help strengthen the bond between the both of you at the same time. Whenever possible, hand feed your puppy. This teaches him/her to like human contact, even when your puppy is feeding from his food bowl. Not feeding from hand can lead your puppy to turn aggressive in the future to whomever that tries to get near him/her while feeding.

Always Have a list of the various things you want to teach your dog, find out how each can be achieved, and then take them one at a time. It works best to teach one thing thoroughly before moving on to something new. Never try to teach your dog several new things at once as this will be confusing. For more complicated tasks you may need to plan different stages, starting with the easiest first. Begin your dog training inside the home where your dog stays. Your dog will learn faster when he/she is in a familiar environment. Outdoor training should only be attempted when your dog reliably obeys commands in your home. After each training sessions, make sure you play with your dog to help associate training as positive and fun.

General rule of reward is to reward wanted behaviour but to ignore unwanted behaviour. Be aware of what you are rewarding. For example, if your dog jumps all over you when you get in and you smother him in affection, he may think this is what you want him to do, and he’ll continue to jump up at you and everyone else who comes to the door. Remember, whenever you praise him, you’re confirming what he is doing.

When families get a dog and bring him into the home, he is not just a pet to watch the house or guard property but a member of the family. As a member of the family, there are rules that should be followed. One basic rule is to keep the home clean. This is where the need for housebreaking comes in. But one must keep in mind the kind of dog he they are bringing home: a new puppy or an older dog that may have come from a shelter or a previous family.

For a puppy, it is important to let it know its surroundings and being new in the world and not in the just in the household, there would be so many factors that may distract him as he is just being introduced to them. But a good rule of thumb when housebreaking or even training in general is to praise when praise is due and show disapproval immediately if something is done wrong to reinforce and instill the message in the mind of the puppy. When the puppy relieves himself in a place that is not proper, immediately show your disapproval for they won’t remember if it’s told the next day or five minutes later. But owners must aid in the learning such as bringing them out after meals to relieve the bladder pressure and praise them when they do their thing in the right places. Crate training is a very good method as it keeps them in one place and it is just big enough for them to comfortably lie down. Dogs usually do not like wetting their area of rest. Once the puppy is seen running in circles, it’s the signal to take them out. As time passes, they will be accustomed to having to go out to take a leak and not indoors.

For older dogs, it may be a challenge to some. Other factors have to be taken into account when wanting to housebreak the dog. They will be having a new environment like how the puppy experiences it for the first time, but the older dog may have had a bad past with a previous owner and the style implemented by the new owner might make them withdraw or shy away. The rule of thumb of praising still applies. Since they have better bladder control, they may adjust to an eliminating schedule by taking them out at specific times of the day. However, crate training can still be used with older dogs.

Dogs have the innate need to please their owners. Owners that show compassion, patience and understanding will win their dogs over no matter what age.

Bringing home an adult dog is very different from bringing home a puppy. A puppy is able to learn new commands fairly quickly but an adult dog is accustomed with the old tricks. He may also have developed some bad habits which his previous owner allowed. If you found your dog from a shelter, chances are he had learned different commands and undergone training. However, old dogs can also adapt and change their behaviors to your expectations. You will just have to be patient with your adult dog training.

Having the Best Dog Training is Important If You Want A Well Trained Dog.

House Training Your Adult Dog
If you are bringing home an adult dog from a shelter, the first thing you have to ascertain is whether or not he is housetrained. If not, you will need to train him immediately. Having been shuffled around many foster homes, your dog will need some time adjusting to the new environment. Be sure to show him his litter bathroom area where he should excrete. Compliment him as he does it right.

Crate Training
Crate training is always one of the hardest aspects of dog training for an older dog. Most dos do not enjoy being in a crate and they think of a crate as a prison. You should always ensure that the crate is spacious and comfortable for your dog. You can place some toys in the crate and make it homely. You can even place some blankets inside the crate. As a start, you can consider leaving the door of the crate open and allow your dog to discover it on his own time. He will begin to explore it and in time come to think of it as a safe haven.

Alternatively, you can begin crate training on your own terms. Always start off gradually. Get him to enter the crate and keep him inside for a short period of time, and then let him out. On some days, keep the door latched. On other days, keep it opened so that your dog can leave it freely. This way, he will not associate it with a prison.

Teaching Your Adult Dog New Behaviors
When carrying out adult dog training, focus more on teaching your dog new commands rather than correcting his behaviors and punishing him for it. Remember, it is not entirely his fault that he developed these bad habits. His previous owners may have encouraged him. Instead, you may want to ignore his advances. For example, if he comes up to you and begs for food when you are at the dining table, you should turn a blind eye to it. Only when he tries bolder moves such as jumping on you or the table, you would then have to reprimand him.

The best way to get your adult dog to kick this habit of his is to teach him new behaviors. Execute basic commands and get him to stay in another room as you are dining. Bring your dog to the spot you want him to be and instruct him to stay put. Repeat this training until he gets that you want him to remain in this spot as you eat. Adult dog training requires much patience and effort on your part. It won’t be easy but once you have successfully trained your dog, you may have a very meaningful relationship with him.

It is nice to have a dog in your house. This man’s best friend will keep company with you and will look after the security of your household and your family members. In return, you need to look after your pet, feed it and give due consideration to dog health problems. When you do so, your dog will grow in a happy and contented environment. It will be friendly and will never become aggressive.

Before you bring a pup home, you must give some consideration to a few factors. The first is that you must be ready to have a dog in your household. One important factor to remember is that your pet is going to have dog health problems and you will need to go through difficult times in getting it treated. You must not expect to bring a pup home and have a playful pet without any contribution from you.

When dogs undergo dog health problems you will find that you go through the same type of anxiety and agony as when a family member of yours is not well. Also like in human beings they undergo minor health problems as well as major dog health problems. When your your pet undergoes major dog health problems, you will notice that your entire family gets involved. Your household will be in a sad mood. This is because all your family members will treat your dog as another member of your family.

When you think of having a pet dog, you need to think if you are prepared to undergo this type of situation in case of dog health problems your pet may be forced to undergo. If you think of only having a beautiful dog at home you will grab a pup from a breeder without thinking of these hassles. But when you are aware of issues you need to go through though once in a way, you will be prepared and you will not be surprised when your pet is faced with dog health problems. If you bring your pet home after understanding these things both you and your pet will be happy and also it will never face health problems.

Methods that you use for training your puppy are a vital skill for you and your puppy. It is significant to teach your puppy accurate socialization and obedience this will be helpful in having an untrained dog. Each puppy is individuals and you need to recognize this when training your puppy nonetheless finding the right methods that best fits the need of your dog will help you be successful in training.

First, thing you need to know is that training your puppy requires time and commitment. Some puppies are by nature with aggressive or anti-social behavior. If you happen to have a puppy like this your main tool will be patience’s and you have to continue to reinforce the training even when your puppy keeps making mistakes. It is important to take in consideration the dog’s age. Puppies and younger dogs are easier trained then an older dog. In spite of your older dogs behavioral problems they can be corrected with proper strategies.

You should start training your puppy at 6 – 8 week. The age of your puppy will decide which training method is most suitable.

First, let your puppy get use to his new environment. House training starts with methods such as crate training, potty training and understanding basic commands. Your puppy should understand commands such as; sit, come, and stay. These commands are vital. They serve as your puppy’s basis training and will guarantee the safety of your dog in public settings.

          ]]>

Another important element in puppy training is socialization. If your dog is correctly socialized they will be able to interact with other humans and animals without being scared or feel they need to use forceful behavior. Otherwise, it might be necessary to confine your dog to the house all the time for his safety and others. During the first 3 months of a puppies life is important for teaching socialization skills afterwards it is vital to reinforce and improve these skills.

Leash training and obedience training is very important in training your puppy to correct behavior. Make sure that your puppy is fitted properly with a collar and then get him familiar with a leash. The collar should fit snug but not tightly. Training your puppy to a leash will permit the puppy to walk in outside settings. Obedience training will teach your puppy to react to commands and prevent the puppy from using negative behavior.

Some basic tips can help the success of most puppy training methods. You must use positive reinforcement when training your puppy. When your puppy follows commands reward him with praise or treats. Positive reinforcement can help the puppy to better understand the training. Starting your training in a quiet environment free from distractions can make the training easier on you as well as your puppy.

House breaking your puppy will require patience and understanding to become successful. Common mistake made by pet owners is scolding their puppies when it is too late. Too late means when you did not catch him in the act. If you yell or scold your puppy after the fact will only confuse him. If your puppy makes a mess and you did not catch him in the act just simply clean up the mess without making a fuss. If you do catch him in the act distract him with a loud “NO” and quickly take him outside while he is in the middle of eliminating. Then, after he has done his business in the correct area praise him.

Don’t rub your puppy’s nose in his mess. Not only is this cruel it may also cause him to become afraid of eliminating in front of you. This will cause problems he will still eliminate in the house but, will try to hide to do it. This could also cause him to eat his mess in fear of how you will react.

Housebreaking your puppy does not have to have headaches if you go about it in the right way. Patience, timing and consistency are the keys to successfully house breaking your puppy. Lots of praises and rewards and good attitude will go along ways.
